Loving our country in all its diversity, without hating any other.
Promoting national unity, not national division.
Celebrating the best of our culture and history, without denying the problems of the present or the evils of the past.
Supporting democracy, the rule of law and the freedom to challenge the law.
Using peaceful methods and rejecting violence.
Uniting in the face of attacks from hostile states or terrorist groups, resisting attempts to divide us.
Supporting freedom of religion, inquiry and expression.
Promoting understanding between people of all religions and none.
Cherishing the landscape and wildlife of our land.
Building stronger local communities.
Behaving in ways which reflect well on our country, when travelling abroad or working with people from other countries.
Positive patriotism is inclusive, not exclusive. A love of our own country does not prevent anyone from loving or appreciating other countries or other cultures, particularly for people of mixed heritage and people who have lived in other countries.
Loving your country does not mean accepting things as they are. Striving to improve your country is part of patriotism. People may feel or express patriotism for different reasons, or not at all. In a free country, displays of patriotism should never be compulsory. We do not want to become like North Korea!
These are principles which anyone, of any political persuasion, may support, except the racists and violent nationalists of the far-right. It that includes you, please help to spread the word by sharing or wearing these images.
We don't want England to become like this!
